In exhibition: The NEW Last Judgment!
The reinterpretation of Michelangelo's Last Judgment in 1:1 scale by Jorge R. Pombo, curated by Sandro Orlandi Stagl.
One of the largest oil paintings in history, measuring 15 x 12 meters, as tall as a 5-story building, covering 180 square meters of painting surface, created through the composition of 13 large canvases.
The work serves as a prelude to the realization of the entire Sistine Chapel, which will be painted step by step in an ambitious multi-year project.
The exhibition is part of the context of the Ethical Art Movement, curated since 2016 by ARTantide Gallery in Verona.
The artwork is the culmination of Spanish artist Jorge R. Pombo's decade-long research. With its monumental dimensions, it rightfully enters the list of the largest canvases in history.
The study of Michelangelo's masterpiece meets the talent of contemporary artist Pombo, whose variation offers a new perspective and reflection on the poetic between our past and what has not yet happened.
"... in three adjectives, Pombo's work is: startling, estranging, and timeless."
Sandro Orlandi Stagl (Curator).
